The Hammer Coffee Porter is Back and it’s a BANGER!

Posted by Mathew Peake on

When Kevin Winter from Coast Mountain Brewing calls to ask if you’re interested in collaborating on another batch of the legendary Hammer Coffee Porter the correct way to answer is shouting “HELL YESS!!” followed by squealing like an excited little girl on Christmas morning.

Whistler’s Coast Mountain Brewing is one of the premier craft breweries in Western Canada/Northwestern USA. A region that’s known for brewing some of the world’s best contemporary craft ales and lagers. Plus, the team at Coast Mountain Brewing is totally open to amateur beer nerds like me asking endless annoying questions. They’re good folks!

THE THIRD TIME REALLY IS A CHARM

This is the third edition of the Hammer Coffee Porter, and it’s a banger! We taste BIG notes of chocolate, vanilla and caramel with a cherry finish that goes on for daaaaaays. Give it a try. We think you’ll love it.

Our challenge was to complement the malt and hops of the beer expertly crafted by Coast Mountain Brewing with coffee selection and roasting application crafted by Hammer Coffee.

From the start, our intention was to brew a beer that was well… still very much a beer. This sounds obvious but oftentimes coffee can take over the brew, overwhelming the characteristics of the malt and hops. Our challenge was to complement the malt and hops of the beer expertly crafted by Coast Mountain Brewing with coffee selection and roasting application crafted by Hammer Coffee.

We crammed in 40lbs of hand-roasted Brazil Seven Falls for milk-chocolatey goodness and Guatemala Santa Clara for a deep caramel finish with a hint of dark cherry. All of this coffee is perfectly paired with the finest Weyermann malts, Fuggles and East Kent Goldings hops.

WHAT ABOUT THAT LABEL?

This is also the first Hammer Coffee Porter to be distributed in cans. Particularly exciting for us as Hammer Coffee was able to design the label in-house, allowing us to further contribute to the creative process.

Pick up a 4 pack, grab a pint or fill yer growler now at Coast Mountain Brewing before it’s gone. The Hammer Coffee Porter is also available online at coastmountainbrewing.com. BC Liquor Stores in the Sea to Sky area will carry Hammer Coffee Porter from Tuesday, January 26.

Get outside and HAMMER!
